Freight Young Professionals Program

Brief

Our Young Professionals Program intents to provide learning and career opportunities for young professionals interested in the dynamic maritime sector. The program will be with duration 18 months and after its completion it will provide the opportunity to have a permanent position within great professionals in the field.

The program will commence on 3rd October and will provide opportunity to 3 people to be part of one of the leading merchants involved in agriculture, food processing, international shipping and finance.

You will learn more about our Freight Platform, which is a growing business in a sector at the edge of a major regulatory transition, which could completely reshape the merchant maritime industry. Digitalization is already a major trend but will increasingly penetrate all areas of the business, as vessel telemetry and automation become dominant themes.

The recently established Varna office acts as an important hub for vessel Operations and Execution, working closely with both commercial and operational staff in other global offices, to implement and execute commercial contracts, with maximum effectiveness and efficiency.

In view of this, we are seeking to create a team of talent that will receive a mixture of structured and on-the-job training in both the traditional operations/execution/laytime skills of commercial shipping, but also prepared for the technological challenges of the future. Providing education in the core skills required to progress in a successful career within the industry within Varna or other global offices.

Main responsibilities

• Rotation Program:

- Laytime fundamentals
- Execution fundamentals
- Operations fundamentals

• Receive training on:

• Fundamentals of maritime contract law as relates to dry bulk commercial fundamentals, cash trading techniques, derivatives, risk management and hedging Laytime calculation fundamentals
• Gain understanding and experience in the operation and execution of voyage and time charter contracts acting as Owner and/or Charterer, specifically:
- Comprehension of commercial contracts and accordingly derivation of appropriate instructions to be given to Master/vessel
- Monitoring of vessel performance in terms of routing, fuel efficiency and optimal arrival times, as relates to maximizing commercial efficiency
- Monitoring and managing port operations, for the perspective of Charterer and Dispondent Owner. Nominating, directing and coordinating with port agents in order to achieve best possible commercial outcome (speed, cost and laytime efficacy)
- Coordinating with Master/Cargo interest, considering effects of water density, tides, displacement, cargo stability etc, in order to optimize cargo intake
- Coordinate and execute payments whilst monitoring accounts receivable/received to effectively manage balance of payments.
- Shipping routes and main cargo flows, followed by safe navigation elucidation (LL map, shifting / maneuvering / mooring)
- Coordinate and monitor hold cleaning and preparation between cargoes

Experience

• No experience is required
• Shipping Contractual knowledge is a plus but not essential
• Capability to manage data sets and extract meaningful output
• Fluency in English is essential, additional languages considered an advantage.

Academics

• Recent graduates /3rd or 4th year students, available for full time commitment
• Minimum 5 in Undergraduate Degree in Maritime specialty or Economics or in related area
